INDUSTRY NIGHT! The Glas Nocturne

Is it ever justifiable to take the life of another human being?

APL Co-Artistic Director Joseph Lavy has adapted Hjalmar Söderberg’s scandalous 1905  fin-de-siecle novel, Doktor Glas (1905), into a noir monodrama of psycho-sexual fixation, moral questioning, and murder unlike anything you have experienced in the theatre.

We have crafted this short, night piece to provide an exquisite audience experience with uncommon access to the action and actors* — and audience size is limited to 10 per show. Prepare for a speakeasy-styled adventure: a clandestine affair, held in a publicly undisclosed location revealed only to invitees.

Features live performances of solo piano nocturnes and evocative Swedish choral settings. The evening also includes a light, after-dinner smörgåsbord and drinks (red wine and our specialty cocktail designed by Old Ballard Liquor Co: The Norwegian Blonde).

Admission for this production is usually by donation (suggested $30 because of the food and drinks), but we never turn anyone away for inability to pay. Industry Night is strictly PWYC.

NOTES ABOUT TIME:

  • Curtain is 8:00 PM. No late seating.
  • We encourage arrivals at 7:30 PM to enjoy the smörgåsbord and ensure you have time to find your way to our location in unpredictable traffic.
  • Run time is ~90 minutes. The show will end by 9:30 PM.
  • A low-key reception/chat with the cast follows. It’s fun. You don’t have to say a thing about the show. We just want to spend time with you if you can stay.

*The piece does not require audience participation of the kind we all hate. 😉
